Truly this was one of the most special events I have ever been part of. Being a wedding photographer I see the beginning of many marriages. But, seeing Dan and Sue renew their vows in front of their family and friends after 50 years was so meaningful. It’s easy on wedding day to feel young and in love and in it forever! But to stand and say, yes we have been married 50 years and we are more committed to each other more than ever, was something to behold.
Dan and Sue were married Sunday, June 12, 1966 at 4:30pm. The renewed their vows on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at 4:30pm.
A few months back I met Dan and Sue at Dancing with the Arc Stars. Sue was one of the dancers for the event. It was so impressive to see many of the dance instructors and friends at their celebration. To watch those attending smile as Dan and Sue recommitted their lives to each other was so moving.
During the ceremony Dan and Sue’s entire family was present. During the ceremony each family member walked on the stage, hugged Dan and Sue and then placed a beautiful stone with their own name engraved on it, into a vase. It was truly a precious way to represent each and every member of their family.
The reception was nothing short of special. The event was held at Lighted Gardens in Bluffton, IN. It’s such a beautiful location and the dance floor was lit up with professional dancers and then those who just wanted to Whip/Nae Nae. Instead of having a first dance as one would at their wedding, Dan and Sue had a ‘next dance’. It was perfectly choreographed and fun to watch!
I could see and feel the love in the room as the day unfolded. What a precious day to be part of.
Thank you, Dan and Sue! Here’s to many more happy years together.
